Getting you website at the first page of the list on search engine rankings can be a really challenging task. This is because there are a lot of other websites with similar content competing for that coveted first page. This is why you need to have your website act as a communications hub by using social marketing platform that utilizes social media and social marketing optimization to ensure you grab that spot. Below are various social media outlets that a good social marketing platform should use to allow multiple entry points to your website through a simple web search:

1. Facebook and Facebook Connect: Creating a Facebook Fan page and utilizing Facebook connect to allow customers to "like" your blogs and other aspects of your site. With the fan page you can communicate directly with customers and potential prospects. What a great way to get the word out about a sale or event...

2. Twitter: Are you following businesses? Many people do, they want to hear updates and tidbits about the companies and products that they like. Does your company twitter? Why not? Yes it is work, and like with a Facebook fan page you need to provide content and keep the updates coming. But your single tweet can be retweeted hundreds and thousands of times with the simple push of a button. People love to share interesting ideas and events. Make sure your business is out there and being tweeted.

3. A Blog: A blog is a great way to get your message out and let people share it. It has been shown time and time again that companies that blog on a regular schedule get business because of their blog. The thing is, people love content. If you post content relevant to your industry, odds are you will develop a following and then when people need a service that you provide you will typically be at the top of the list, because they are already familiar with you. If your content is good, then it will be shared among the web community and bring new users/customers to you and on and on.

4. LinkedIn: Does your company have a LinkedIn page? If not, why not? LinkedIn is a great way to get a simple company site that showcases your company and your skills. You can link back to your site.

These are just some of the social media outlets that should be used to turn your website into a communications hub, others include Articles, Picture or Image sites, etc... The main thing is that you need to post regularly and not stop, so many companies start out strong only to just peter out and barley post or stop posting all together. I know of a instance where a company was on the right track, they created the fan page and were able to get a quick following of customers, they were putting out great content for about a month and then the time between posts got longer and longer, till now maybe they post once a month. On the other hand we had a case study where a professional was on Googles page one with 6 different ways to get to their site using a keyword they wanted to target, this is because we utilized the platform and allowed the customer to do what they do best, while we did what we do best.

Nice, concise hub. You're very right that a common problem people have with SMO is running out of steam.
